The purpose of Rosie the Riveter is to tell women “You too can be a strong, productive member of society! In fact, we need you to be! For once, you are needed to keep America strong! Get out there, girl!” Changing Rosie into a coy little pin-up is kind of insulting to her original intent. Her intent is not to be the pretty pin-up or housewife. She is a factory worker. She is strong. She is more important than cleavage and coy smiles and letting her hair down. In fact, it’s dangerous to be uncovered and have your hair flying about while riveting! It turns the focus back on her appearance, which I find distasteful. Men had no problem violating women’s bodies while they had on corsets, petticoats and farthingales, so what the fuck makes you think a short skirt has anything to do with it? 

Men also have no problem violating women’s bodies while they wear a niqab, hijab and burqa, some of the most covered form of clothing. So basically, what the fuck makes you think clothes have anything to do with it?
